What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus Christ? What does it mean, what does it require? I spent some time this weekend contemplating on what I needed to do, at the very least, to say I'm actively living out my faith.
What are the basic tenets of Christian Faith? What is non-negotiable? Your mind may be swimming with ideas of charity, piety, prayers, who knows.
The first place we should be looking for an example of living out the Christian Faith is Christ Himself.
I've narrowed down the most crucial responsibilities of the Believer to these three things:
Now, we're supposed to act out our faith in deeds as well, but for building the foundation of our faith, these three are it. The "Building Blocks," as it were.
Our church just finished a study on Prayer, and it has convicted me that I don't pray enough. Over the next few weeks, I will set aside time to Pray on a daily basis. It doesn't have to be long, but it needs to be private and sincere.
I've completed the Bible In 90 Days reading plan more than once. But I think this time, I will focus on the New Testament, and the churches in Acts and in Paul's Epistles. Again, reading Scripture is something I should be doing daily.
For me, the pinnacle of fellowship with God is Worship. There is something there, when I'm playing music directed towards God, that touches a part of me that nothing else does. Music is such an integral part off who I am and how I communicate, it should come as no surprise that it's my preferred method of praising God.
However, I don't get to worship every day, and I want to change that. I don't think I'll be able to have a full-blown music service in my living room every night, but still- it's something I should do more often. I like to learn new worship songs, too, and one of the best places I've seen for that is CCLI's Video Feed.
I challenge you, dear reader, to look deeply into yourself, and challenge yourself to grow closer to God by expanding these three areas in your life.
