I’ve been commuting to work by bike for the last 4 weeks, and during that time, I learned something interesting.
In my goal to get closer to my ideal weight/fat ratio, I’ve been putting in some miles on the bike, and increasing the intensity of my riding, in an effort to help burn calories. But after almost 2 weeks of riding and watching my diet, I hadn’t lost anything!
Naturally, I did some reading, and discovered when you eat is almost as important as what you eat. So as an experiment, I decided to try eating breakfast after my 45 minute ride to work. Nothing else changed. This is called intermittent fasting, and quite a few bodybuilders know about it, because it changes the way your body burns fat.
I’ve lost 7 pounds since then, and I’m now weighing in at 168lbs. I still have fat rolls on my back above my waist, even though my arms, legs, and face are very lean. I don’t seem to have lost muscle mass, and I’ve been drinking lots of water in the 110°+ heat.
Keep riding, keep watching what you eat. But most importantly, keep learning!
