Snow Days

A few weeks ago, the most extraordinary thing happened.

It snowed.

In deep south Louisiana, a.k.a. “the swamp” we got over a foot of snow in 24 hours. As you could imagine, it blew people’s minds, mine included. This kind of thing hasn’t happened in over a hundred years here. Most houses aren’t set up for that kind of thing- a large percentage have exposed pipes and raised floors, especially the older homes.

But more importantly, it forced everyone to slow down.

Nobody could go anywhere, nobody wanted to watch TV or play games- we were completely engrossed in the fascination and wonder of seeing actual snowfall. We did things that we knew we’d never be able to do again. We saw things that were literally once-in-a-lifetime events. We were living in the moment.

I’m not suggesting you treat every day as a one-time event, even if it technically is. Sometimes finding a routine is good.

But we shouldn’t lose the wonder and fascination of just living life, experiencing things to the fullest, and being thankful for the miracle and wonder of life itself.

Take a moment and reflect on the blessings you have in your life.

And go play in the snow
